The Piano Bar on Napier Street, De Waterkant is the perfect spot for a cosy winter rendezvous featuring a grand piano and a relaxed but vibey crowd. It offers a solid menu, really good service and a 2-for-1 drinks and tapas special from 16h00-18h00. It’s open every day of the week and a rare find in Cape Town because they actually take bookings. But the absolute best part is the live music from 19h30-22h00 every night with an interesting and cool line-up of musicians.
It’s also small and intimate enough that you can have conversations with the people at the table next to you. In this case, this was a couple on their first Tinder date. The awkward conversation was a clue but the lady’s nervous laughter was the confirmation of first date jitters. When the lady excused herself to the bathroom, we had a chat to the guy about how the date was going. Apparently, she was a “cool” person despite being an auditor (sorry accountants). But sadly, they would not be tickling each other’s ivories anytime soon. Kudo’s to them for sticking it out for over two hours. I give a bad first date a 1-hour cap and usually have come up with an excuse within the first 30 minutes.
I love discovering new places in Cape Town and this one proved to be a gem of a spot. We had a lot of fun at The Piano Bar and will definitely be back.
